A WRITER'S LIFE…
December, 2003
As the last month of year the begins, I find myself reflecting back on what 2003 meant to me. I look over all the highs, the lows and in the in-betweens and know that I've been blessed. I've had opportunities this year that, a few year ago, I'd never thought would be possible. My readership has expanded tremendously and a lot of first time fans are letting me know just how much they are enjoying my books.
I had the opportunity to address five classes at the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire and two of my novels were part of two separate curriculum's there. My latest novel "A Journey To Here" is receiving great acclaim and every where I went, people wanted to know when my next one was coming. As I look back over 2003, I know for certain that this was a very special year for me. And again, I thank everyone who gave me love and support throughout the year.
I know I thanked people in my November updates, but now that my tour is over, here are a few more people I want to give shout outs to: Hollywood Hernandez of ABC Radio Networks, "Hollywood Classic R&B Show" -- Hollywood, you are the best. Cyndey Rax, my 'cuz' from Houston, with her debut novel "My Daughter's Boyfriend" arriving in stores next year -- Girl, what would I ever do without you?
Thanks to radio host Wali Muhammad of WCF-J in Chicago. Thank you for making me feel so welcome and going down memory lane with me---WBLS.FM, yes those were the days...
Brenda Connor Bey Miller -- who you are has everything to do with who I am today. I love and appreciate you so much. Professor David Jones at UWEC -- thank you for inviting me to your college campus. I had an incredible time despite the 14 degree weather (smile). Gwen Richardson of Cushcity.com.-- as always, you made me feel so very welcomed at your store. ShoppnMama aka Wilma -- you always show me love and I thank you for that.
My Houston escort, Andre Brackett, of ScribesInk -- thanks for turning me on to that seafood restaurant. I haven't forgotten your promise regarding Galveston and I still mean what I said about Houston (lol). Emma Rodgers of Black Images -- coming to your bookstore is always a nice treat for me.
Terryl Manning -- thank you for making sure I got my books on time. You are a lifesaver. Thank you Brandon Massey and Franklin White for coming out to the other side of Atlanta to support a Sista (smile). Angela Reid of Imani Book Club, Kaia of RAWSISTAZ, Fongie, Vania and Debra, -- thanks for your support too.
I want to thank Shambet Yisrael for always reminding me just who I am when I get forgetful and Audrey Lawrence for understanding my heart. Ladies, we are forever and I thank God for that. I want to thank my husband, Terence A. Hodge, who is my backbone, my front bone and all the-way-around-bone (no pun intended - lol). You're my everything.
Thank you Salimah Muhammad for your wisdom, your kindness and your insight. God knew exactly what He was doing. Thank you Mom (Alma H. Johnson) for loving me and keeping my head straight even though I'm way past grown. You are my first love.
And lastly thank you to everyone who ever brought or borrowed a copy of my books. You are truly what makes crafting stories worthwhile.
As I close this month's "What's New", I leave you with this thought. As we approach this season of giving, never lose sight of the gifts given to us. Let those people in your life know that they are loved and appreciated. Doing so is the greatest gift we can really give.
As always I invite you to drop me a line at: [email protected]. I love hearing from you and promise to hit you back.
Until next time, may your life be filled with love, light, and understanding. Until next time,
Peace and Blessings,
Margaret
